This week the 2’s were away against Old Souths. With low availability across the club, we went with just 11 players, upon arrival we thought we were going to have to start with just ten on pitch due to traffic, however a star guest appearance from Claire King meant we could start with a full team.
With a rocky start, Old Souths pushed strong straight away but our defensive line was not allowing anything past them! 14 minutes into the first half we made a break in their attack, advancing with quick passes up the right half and a perfect cross into Claire King on the post to sweep the ball into the left corner. With a newfound buzz we kept good possession with easy passing meaning just five minutes later Chloe King had a shot on goal, picking up the deflection from the keepers save and kept cool by just lifting it over the keepers stick. With an even battle from both teams half time was called with 2-0 on the scoreboard.
Old Souths once again came out strong from the whistle, pressing on the defensive line with a few short corners against us and some brilliant saves from our keeper Denise, we managed to hold our own however the opposition finally made their break and got a well fought for goal. Not letting that slow our pace we reset and in the 50th minute Anna Tutton ran the ball from halfway to the opposition's D using some silky skills, passed it left for Claire King to put it away once again in the left corner. Old Souths battled and got their second goal of the game.
Everyone held their heads up and kept up such a strong push right until the very end despite having no subs. It all paid off in the end finishing the game with a 3-2 win for S&B 2’s.
