S&B 2nd XI put 10 past Southend 3’s without reply

This week the 2’s were up against Southend at home. Despite just having bare 11, the team were determined to walk away once again with the win and get their goal difference up. From the start, the team held a good formation and were passing round Southend with ease, this eventually led to S&B putting the first goal away in the 18th minute from a short corner, Neve Harrison getting the rebound on the post. Thanks to all the support on the sideline there was a buzz in the air and just a minute later Emillie Burton followed up with another goal. The 2’s continued the strong play and had many chances, however Southend’s goalkeeper kept them out with determination. Half time came and the team was glad to have a breather due to not having a sub.

The second half started just as well as the first ended, the whole team were communicating really well and using the width of the pitch to get the better of the opposition. Just 4 minutes in S&B were awarded another short corner, Anna Tutton took the first strike however the keeper saved it from getting past the line and then Chloe King made the run for the deflection and flicked it above the backboard. Now sitting at a comfortable 3-0 the team continued a steady pace however Neve was not finished, just a minute later she slipped in another goal…then another…another and just to make sure, another one. Now being at an incredible 7-0, the team were so determined to make it double digits. However the lack of players was catching up to the girls, Southend managed to break through the defence a few times, but keeper Denise kept complete composure and didn’t let them ruin the clean sheet. In the 54th minute Chloe put her second goal away, and despite the score Southend didn’t let their heads drop. Neve then wanted to complete her double hattrick and did just that in the 57th minute along with Chloe getting her third goal in the 60th minute. The last ten minutes were filled with multiple shots from the 2’s however the fatigue was starting to hit and nothing else got past Southend’s keeper.

Finishing the game on a nice 10-0 the team walked away more than satisfied and it was a true team effort. A well-deserved POM went to Neve Harrison.
