An early start to 2024 with S&B 3’s playing their rearranged match versus Old Lought 4’s at home. With some great home support the crowd were ready for the fortunes to turn for the 3’s, and turn they did.
Despite going down fairly early in the first half to Old Loughts the home team kept their heads high and despite it being 2-0 within 15 mins, Claire King took a ball on the left at the edge of the D and struck a text book goal to bring it back to 2-1.
This fired up the 3’s and within another 6 minutes Claire took another opportunity and smacked a 2nd home for the home side.
The team continued to play a very strong game with excellent clearances from the old Loughts attempts on goal and strong passing and drives up the pitch to continue the pressure into our attacking D.
And just before the half time whistle Claire did it again to make it 3-2.
With another strong attack in the 2nd half by Old Loughts, who were also hungry for the win, the score levelled at 3-3.
Undeterred the 3’s continued to play their own game and their patience paid off with another great goal this time by Ellie Turner.
The 3ks held Old Loughts off to the final whistle and the final score remained 4-3.
Player of the Match went to GK Mathilda Johnson who had an amazing game saving numerous attempts on goal and making strong decisive actions to stop shots being on target.
