Southend and Benfleet – 4 (Sarah Conway 1, Nicola Bryant 1, Kirsty Edmunds 2)
Harlow – 0
Southend and Benfleet 1s hosted Harlow this week and seconds after the whistle blew to begin the match, S&B were in the visitors' D, with Sarah Conway smashing home an impressive strike to land S&B the quickest opening goal they have ever scored. Whilst S&B kept the pressure on the Harlow defence in the play following the early opener, they weren’t able to find the back of the goal again before Harlow regained their footing and mounted their own attacks but some precision tackles from Jodie Linge and Nicola Coleman kept the visitors out and off the scoreboard. It was great teamwork from Adele Cole and Lora Sharples that pushed the play back into Harlow’s half when, at a short corner, the ball was slipped expertly to Nicola Bryant who slotted it passed the keeper late to make the score 2-0 before half time.
The second half saw Ashlie Colman spearheading several attacks on the Harlow goal before S&B were awarded a penalty flick after one of her shots was stopped on the line by a Harlow foot. Her fellow striker, Kirsty Edmunds, took the flick and slipped it passed the goalie to take the score to 3-0 midway through the second half. Not long after that saw Edmunds weave across the pitch with the ball to take on the goalie before cracking home an impressive forth goal for S&B. S&B’s defence stood out this week and the united front of the talented sweeper, Nina Dabbs, S&B’s superstar goalie, Lisa Hawkins, and centre defence Player of the Match, Hayley Middleton kept the Harlow attacks at bay and S&B’s slate clean.
The win keeps the Seasiders in second place, 3 points behind leaders Havering, who they are yet to face.
