Southend & Benfleet played against Witham in the second game of the premier division. A well-organised S&B team got off to a fantastic start against the newly promoted Witham side. Forwards Sarah Conway, Ashlie Colman and Kirsty Durban mounted numerous attacks on the Witham defence. Finally persistence paid off for the S&B side in the 20th minute as Conway fed a ball to Durban who made sure this one went in. 5 minutes later Durban scored again, assisted this time by Colman. Witham weren't going to go down quietly and tested the S&B defence with goalkeeper Lisa Hawkins diving to keep them from scoring. Witham were awarded a penalty corner but were thwarted by S&B defence. Final score was 2-0 to the home side. Player of the match went to new girl Kendall Colman for her tireless work as right defender.
