Amid much excitement, Southend & Benfleet 1st XI played Wapping 3s at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, venue of the recent European Hockey Championships. Buoyed up by playing at such an iconic stadium, S&B took control of the first half. Ashlie Colman scored first from a cross from Kirsty Durban. Shortly after Kendall Colman slapped the ball out right to Durban who slotted the ball past the Wapping keeper. Ashlie Colman scored her second goal of the game and Kirsty Durban scored again in the last minute of the first half, blasting the ball into the left corner. In the second half Wapping stepped up their game and put the Southend & Benfleet defence under pressure. However, player of the match Nina Colman, alongside Rachel Jeffers kept the defence tight and prevented Wapping from scoring. Wapping eventually scored from a short corner that saw Jodie Linge green carded. S&B kept up the attacks with new girl Chloe Harris showing her versatility in midfield and Caitlin Meredith making runs down the right. Final score 4-1 to Southend & Benfleet who now sit second in the Premiership table, joint on points but one goal behind leaders Upminster.
