Southend & Benfleet 1st XI - 2 (Sarah Conway, Ashlie Colman)
Maldon 1st XI - 2
Maldon ended Southend & Benfleet’s winning run on Saturday with a 2-2 draw. The Maldon side were looking for a win to stay in the top half of the table and got off to a good start, leaving Southend & Benfleet wondering what had hit them. In the first half Maldon tested the S&B defence by switching players constantly in attack. After Kendall Colman had to retire from defence with an injury the S&B side were lucky to maintain a 0-0 scoreline at half time. After stern words from captain Kirsty Durban, Southend & Benfleet returned for the second half with a more determined attitude. Adele Cole joined Ellen Taylor, Rachel Jeffery and Jodie Linge in defence. S&B were the first to score when Sarah Conway found herself with the ball in front of her and buried it. Maldon retaliated with a goal from a free hit batted in by a Maldon forward. After maximum effort from player of the match Chloe Harris in midfield, Ashlie Colman netted an effortless goal to take the score to 2-1. However Maldon were far from finished and the S&B side, down to bare 11, were limping along quite literally with Nicola Bryant and Jodie Linge struggling to move with knee injuries. Maldon levelled in the last 5 minutes with a goal from a short corner. Southend & Benfleet, still undefeated, had to make do with 1 point which sees them lying second to Upminster 2s.
