Old Loughtonians 3rd XI 2
Southend & Benfleet 1st XI 2 (Ashlie Colman, Kirsty Durban)
Southend & Benfleet 1st team played away to Old Loughtonians 3s. The away side turned up knowing that they faced a tough match. In the heavy rain the saturated water-based pitch was playing slowly, making passing difficult. The S&B side fought hard to keep possession and were awarded for their hard work when Kirsty Durban made a run up the right wing, passing to Ashlie Colman who scored. The half-time score was 1-0 and S&B were determined to keep up the support for each other with Caitlin Meredith and Kendall Colman forcing their way up the pitch. A quick breakaway saw Ashlie Colman linking effortlessly with Kirsty Durban who scored S&B’s second goal. But Old Loughts weren’t going down and got a goal back to make the score 2-1. S&B defended a number of short corners well with player of the match Natasha Cheeseman as left back. Old Loughts finally got the leveller they needed in the last 5 minutes, taking advantage of S&B’s confusion over a decision. So S&B had to be content with one point and a 2-2 draw.
