It was a top of the table clash for Southend & Benfleet 1st XI as they played away to Chelmsford 3rd XI. It was a well matched game with Chelmsford matching the S&B side for speed. S&B were awarded a number of penalty corners at the beginning of the match which they failed to convert. Chelmsford picked up their game, pressurising Nina Coleman, Jodie Linge and Ellen Taylor in defence. With Lisa Hawkins in goal S&B managed to hold Chelmsford to a 0-0 draw at half time. In the second half Chelmsford were awarded a penalty corner which they managed to get past goalkeeper Lisa Hawkins. Despite their best efforts, S&B struggled to maintain possession and were disappointed to lose 1-0. Tireless work in defence from youngster Natasha Cheeseman earned her player of the match. The gap between S&B in second place and Chelmsford in third position closes.
