Southend and Benfleet first team travelled to Lee Valley to play on the Olympic pitch against Waltham Forest 1s. Southend and Benfleet started strong in the first half, with Lily Cole and Kendall Coleman controlling the middle of the pitch. The hard work paid off, with Kendall Coleman hitting the post and a short corner slip to Rachel Jeffery requiring Waltham Forest to save a ball off the line. However, the home team were quick on the break and opened the score line with a well worked goal. 1-0 down at half time.
The second half continued in the same fashion, with fast attacking from Waltham Forest testing the S&B defence. Player of the Match, goalkeeper Carmel Kenny, made some exceptional saves, keeping S&B in the game. Unfortunately, defender Lily King picked up a nasty head injury in the second half, leaving S&B down to 10 players for the rest of the game. Waltham Forest capitalised with their extra player, scoring twice more and a finishing with a final score of 3-0.
