Southend and Benfleet 1s picked up their first 3 points at home to Brentwood 2s. S&B attacked hard from the off, pressing high and putting pressure on the Brentwood defence. This paid off quickly, with Chloe King slotting in the opening goal after 4 minutes of play, after receiving a brilliant cross from Caitlin Meredith. S&B continued with the pressure, winning plenty of short corners but Brentwood’s defence remained strong and a couple of saves off the line ensured S&B went into the break 1-0 up.

The second half continued the same, with Players of the Match Adele Cole and Caitlin Meredith both putting in amazing performances to keep S&B ahead. Brentwood started putting more pressure on the S&B defence, who held strong. With 10 minutes to go, Brentwood got a short corner which was fired into the corner of the goal, drawing the score level. S&B refused to give up, fighting until the very end to get the winning goal. This determination paid off, with Caitlin Meredith making a brilliant run down the right in the final few seconds, winning a short corner just before the final whistle. A brilliant injection from Nic Bryant went to Nina Dabbs at the top of the D, who took a shot. The initial shot was saved but S&B got onto the rebound and a goal line scrabble led to Nic Bryant getting the ball over the line. Final score 2-1, and a well deserved 3 points for S&B.
