The 1’s travelled to Romford on the back of a big win last week, and were keen to repeat the outcome. From the off, S&B had all the pressure, with shot after shot being saved by the outstanding Romford goalkeeper. With a bare 11, captain’s orders were lots of passing, and not running out of steam, and the team followed orders perfectly, with the best passing game seen in the 1’s in a long time. Linking moves from defence, through midfield and to the forwards ensured many chances, however just before half time, a quick break from Romford caught S&B off guard, and could have led to a goal against the run of play, had it not been for a super save from keeper Carmel Kenny, who had little to do before that crucial save. 0-0 at half time and S&B knew a goal was coming.
5 minutes into the second half, a short corner was awarded, which went top to Lily Cole, saved by the Romford keeper but then calmly slotted in by Chloe Syvrett. 1-0 and S&B were keen for more. It was not to be however, despite many more short corners and chances, the Romford defence and keeper held strong and the game ended 1-0 to S&B. A fantastic team performance, and another 3 points for the 1’s.
