Cole family lead the way at Brentwood 2’s

Sitting confidently at the top of the league, S&B 1’s were determined to continue their winning streak and wanted to maintain the clean sheet they had gained since the first game of the season. The game started brilliantly, with pressure being put on Brentwood by forwards Naomi Barker, Lily Cole and Hollie Wakeman, which resulted in a short corner gained by Lily in the first 2 minutes. This was injected to Naomi who hit it into the bottom corner, 1-0 to S&B. 4 minutes later and the same pattern emerged, Lily Cole drove the ball into the D and won another short corner, which was swiftly converted again by Naomi Barker. Another couple of minutes passed with some brilliant attacking play, and the ball was crossed across the D, Hollie made the shot which travelled along the line, where Lily Cole was waiting to slot the ball into the goal. 3-0 within 10 minutes and S&B were full of confidence.

Brentwood regrouped and had some attacking chances, with long balls being cut out by the midfield and the defence working hard to keep the ball out of the D. Brentwood gained a short corner which was converted with a straight strike into the bottom corner. 3-1 and S&B knew it wouldn’t be an easy win. 5 minutes later however, S&B gained another short corner, which was struck by Naomi just to the right of the goal and expertly deflected into the goal by injector Adele Cole. 4-1 at half time and S&B had their confidence back.

Brentwood came out fighting in the second half and the game became a lot more even. The defence of Leanne Neicho, Charley Edwards, Nina Dabbs and Kerry Amos kept the ball out of the D as much as possible and some excellent defensive work by the midfield (special mention to Chloe Syvrett for channeling a player off the back line) meant that Brentwood were unable to get a shot away. In the final 10 minutes, a penalty stroke was awarded to S&B which was converted by Naomi Barker, completing her hat trick. 5-1 win to the 1s and another 3 points. Player of the match was a family affair with Adele and Lily Cole sharing the honours.
