The 1’s travelled to Chelmsford for a later game against Chelmsford 5’s. With all teams struggling for players this week, the 1’s were thrilled to welcome Neve Heathcote to the side, who played brilliantly at both right mid and up front. The game started with lots of attacking from S&B, with many chances but no goals. After 20 minutes, Kerry Amos got a shot on goal which Lily Cole made sure crossed the line with a dive towards the goal (on an injured hamstring)! Just a few minutes later, Naomi Barker got her first of the game with a great strike. 2-0 at half time.
The second half continued the same, with the away team piling the pressure on the Chelmsford defence. With the rain lashing down, the ball speed slowed considerably and S&B kept going with strong passes. Lily Cole scored another goal shortly after half time, followed by another brilliant strike from Naomi 3 minutes later. The goals kept coming, with Naomi scoring another from open play (brilliantly assisted by me!) and then another short corner 5 minutes later. With 10 minutes to go, Kerry Amos flicked the ball over the keeper, making the score 7-0. In the last 5 minutes, Chelmsford, who had continued to battle for the whole game, caught S&B off guard, and scored themselves. Final score 7-1, the 1’s were absolutely drenched but a good result and another 3 points, keeping them 2nd in the division with 41 points.
