A difficult challenge awaited the home team this weekend for game two of the 2024-25 season. S&B were up against an experienced Southend side who had only recently been playing in div 1.
Despite starting with promising energy, S&B struggled to convert possession into goal scoring opportunities and Southend continued to mount pressure on the home side. To S&B’s detriment, yes many short corners were conceded, BUT defended extremely well, with Southend HC only able to convert one of their routines into a goal. The first half finished 1:0.
Despite a valiant effort from Carmel and her fellow defenders Kerry, Leanne, Gracie & Charley to stifle the Southend HC's attacks, S&B succumbed to a tough second half defeat after Southend pushed through with two more well executed set plays. The whole team's resilience was commendable, but Southend's persistence ultimately paid off, allowing them to break through the defence and secure their win.
Despite the home team's 3:0 defeat, Kerry Amos was voted as the player of the match by the squad, likely due to her exceptional performance during the game.
The 1’s team will be determined to stay focused after their recent defeat, emphasising the importance of using the setback as motivation to regroup and prepare for next week's game. The team is committed to learning from the experience and approaching their next match with renewed energy and determination to bounce back.
