

Without their captain Barker, ladies 1’s were on a mission to bring her home the 3 points against Basildon renowned for their grit to win games.
The game was underway with immediate end to end play both teams trying to secure that first goal. S&B’s brick wall defense kept the ball at bay, with keeper Kenny making some all important saves. Whilst at the other end, S&B secured multiple short corners but to no avail despite strikes of incredible force.
Midfielders Middleton, Syvrett, Brooks, Gardener and Tutton commanded play with interlinking passes up the pitch, to goal hungry Wakeman and Taylor working tirelessly to wear out the opposition defence. Half time 0-0.
The second half started with Basildon out in force gunning for S&B’s goal. But defenders Green, King, Amos and Neicho held their ground denying Basildon marking the scoreboard. Quick counter play saw S&B camping out in Basildon's half amounting to another short corner. Tutton injects the ball to Wakeman who slips to Brooks, multiple attempts to find the back board denied again but a rebound landing at the feet of Syvrett keeping her composure finds the sweet spot over the top of the keepers pads. 55 minutes down, 15 to go!
S&B suddenly with a burst of energy regain control of the game. Wave after wave of attacks. Can they hold of Basildon to the final whistle. Basildon now desperate to score hold posession sending balls firing down the wings. A few moments remain each team battling to the end. In the final seconds, Basildon are awarded a short corner. The final whistle sounds. This is it! 1 point or 3 for S&B? But Green makes a showstopping deflection to bring home the win for S&B.
