Southend & Benfleet 1s travelled to the home of international hockey at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to play Waltham Forest. The game got off to a bad start as Waltham Forest scored within the first 5 minutes with a shot into the top of the net. A short while later they scored again from a penalty flick awarded after a defender saved a shot off the line with a foot. As Waltham Forest sat back, Southend & Benfleet dug deep and found their form. Their first goal came from Ashlie Bolton after a run by Kirsty Durban through the Waltham Forest defence. Spurred on by this, Southend & Benfleet went on to score just before half time - Nicola Bryant in midfield delivered a pass to Kirsty Durban who again managed to get the ball into the D. It was intercepted by a Waltham Forest player but the ball ended up in the air for Sarah Conway to bat into the goal. So, all square at half-time at 2-2.

Southend & Benfleet kept the upper hand in the second half and captain Kirsty Durban secured their win, taking the ball from the halfway line as her players watched on with relief. Final score 3-2. Player of the match went to Rachel Jeffrey for a versatile performance in midfield.
