Tough times for Southend & Benfleet first team. Sitting in fifth place in Division 2SE of the East Hockey League, they played Canterbury, who were just above them in fourth place. The game was extremely fast paced and Canterbury scored first. Southend & Benfleet evened the score after striker Ashlie Bolton buried a pass from skipper Kirsty Edmunds. Canterbury soon retaliated with their second goal, bringing the half-time score to 2-1. In the second half, Canterbury were the first to score. Ashlie Bolton scored her second for Southend & Benfleet after a scrummage in the goal. Kirsty Edmunds was left dazed and confused after she somersaulted over the Canterbury keeper. Southend & Benfleet pushed ahead for the equalizer with Sarah Conway playing high, looking for a chance. However it was not to be for Southend & Benfleet as Canterbury sealed the deal with their fourth goal past player-of-the-match, goalkeeper Lisa Hawkins.
