Southend & Benfleet 1st XI - 1 (Sarah Conway)
Redbridge & Ilford 1 - 1
A depleted Southend & Benfleet team faced Redbridge & Ilford at home in the East league 2SE. The team welcomed back Ellen Taylor and Natasha Cheeseman to boost their defence. In the first half the home side had a number of short corners, all on target but saved by the Redbridge & Ilford goalkeeper. In the second half Southend & Benfleet were the first to score as Sarah Conway picked up a cross from skipper Kirsty Durban. Taking the shot on the reverse, Conway picked out the far right corner and Redbridge & Ilford could only watch in despair as the ball went over the line. However they soon picked themselves up to score the equaliser by working the ball round the S&B defence. Jodie Linge and Durban picked up injuries as the going got tough but had to soldier on as the team had no substitutes. The rest of the game was evenly matched with Caitlin Meredith earning herself player of the match on the right wing. Captain Kirsty Durban said “We’ve had a hard two weeks with bare 11 but we’ve battled through to 7th place and we’re safe in the East league”.
