Southend & Benfleet 1st XI were beaten 2-0 by hosts Basildon. Due to unforeseen circumstances S&B were reduced to bare 11. Sarah Conway sustained an injury to her knee after 15 mins but had to limp on regardless. Against all odds the run of play went with S&B but Basildon capitalised on a loose ball in defence to score before half-time. S&B carried on determinedly but Basildon scored a textbook goal in the second half. Despite the efforts of the team and with excellent attacking play from player of the match Kendall Colman, S&B couldn’t get on the scoresheet.
