Southend & Benfleet 1st XI - 2 (Kirsty Edmunds x2)

Southend & Benfleet 1st XI travelled to Sevenoaks for their first match of 2018. It was a fairly even first half with chances of scoring for both teams. However Sevenoaks managed to convert their opportunities, scoring two from open play and one from a penalty corner. Southend & Benfleet found themselves 3-0 down at half-time. The away side came back fighting in the second half with Ashlie Colman and Kirsty Edmunds taking advantage of a long ball out from defence to run it straight up the other end and Kirsty Edmunds slotted it past the Sevenoaks keeper. Edmunds got her brace and at 3-2 with 15 minutes to go Southend & Benfleet were in with a chance. However Sevenoaks were awarded a penalty corner which they blasted in and it was game over for S&B with a 4-2 defeat. Player of the match was awarded to Rachel Jeffery as sweeper.
