Kings & Alleyns 1st XI - 4
Southend & Benfleet 1st XI - 1 (Karen Burgess)
Southend and Benfleet 1s succumbed quickly under pressure by pack hunting Kings & Allyen's hungry for goal. The home team caught their opposition off guard with a quick turnover and converted their first strike one-on-one with exposed keeper, Lisa Hawkins. But subless S&B didn't let their heads drop and quickly responded with an equaliser from open play: Kirsty Durban darted between players up the right wing and found Karen Burgess top D who smacked the ball home for the girls in pink and black. End-to-end play kept both teams busy until half time, the scoreline remaining 1-1. The second half started competitively with both teams taking turns to attack, but it was the hosts who took the lead. This gave them new energy to extend their lead to 4-1 by full time, despite a hearty battle from Southend and Benfleet. Defender and Player of the match Payton said, "it was disappointing to lose despite a promising start."
