This week saw Southend and Benfleet 1s host Kings and Alleyns 1s or a windy October afternoon. It was a slow start to the match for S&B and the visitors were eager to capitalise on the hosts lackluster start as they pressed high into S&Bs defensive half for the majority of the first half. S&B attacks were few and far between, but a couple of close calls for the visitors kept them on edge and made them know that the tide could easily turn. It’s a credit to S&B that despite constant pressure of their defence that the visitors only managed to squeeze one passed them into the back of the goal before half time.
As play resumed it seemed like a totally different game, and S&B found feet and brought the fight to the visitors for a time but were unable to find the back of the goal to draw level before Kings and Alleyns scored again to take the score to 2-0. S&B never gave up and there were some great plays to give S&B several chances to claw back a goal or two but it just wasn’t to be.
Player of the match was awarded to Nicola Bryant for her tireless efforts in center midfield, as she defended with precision and attacked with vigor till the final whistle.
