Southend & Benfleet played at Folkestone in severe weather conditions but managed to cause a storm themselves winning 3-2. While other matches in Kent were abandoned S&B played on. They first went 1-0 down to the home side from a penalty corner. Lily Cole evened the score from a penalty corner slip from Kirsty Durban. Chloe Syvrett scored from another penalty corner from the left to put the visitors 2-1 up at half-time. Going against the wind in the second half S&B capitalised on yet another penalty corner slip this time to Natasha Cheeseman. Cheeseman had to retire shortly after with an ankle injury. Southend & Benfleet manages to stave off attacks from Folkestone. Folkestone had a number of missed opportunities but scored from a penalty corner across goalkeeper Erin McKee into the left corner. With five minutes to go S&B played it safe and were elated to get their first win of the season. Captain Adele Cole said “We did not let up for one second. It was hard work for 3 points but it makes the win so much better’.
