The Super 2’s went into this rescheduled game against Chelmsford 4’s needing a win to move away from Chelmsford themselves. A new attacking formation for S&B meant that Chelmsford started the better, whilst the S&B players settled into the new roles. However, it didn’t take long for the 2’s to take control with some quick hit outs, midfield passing into the forwards and attacking threat in front of goal. Chelmsford had their own chances in the half too but the defence of Osman, Edwards and Francis backed up by some important saves from goalkeeper Rogers, kept the score at nil-nil at the end of the 1st period.
The second half saw S&B create more chances with Swann’s non-stop running in midfield, Bryant with some great linking play and breaking up of Chelmsford attacks. Wide players White and Gerhold joining the attacks with Harrison, King, Reynolds and Wright peppering the Chelmsford goal.
It took until the 57th minute for S&B to break the deadlock as Wright’s shot was saved by the goalkeeper, Neve Harrison was on hand to pull the ball away from the goalkeepers stick after a save and knock the ball between her own legs for the opening goal and a sigh of relief from the S&B players and supporters.
S&B were subsequently awarded two penalty strokes for illegal stops on the line of certain goals, however the Chelmsford goalie pulled out some great stops to deny both. At the other end, the S&B defence held firm thwarting any attacks and with Rogers kicking any shots away that did get through.
It took until the last minute of the game for S&B to extend their lead with a well executed PC slipped to Chloe King to smash the ball home. A great performance all round moving into next weeks tough challenge at Romford 1’s.
