The fantastic 4’s drew 2-2 at home to Upminster 7’s. It was an early start but the sun was out on a very cold morning. With a different line up to usual the very young team of S&B stepped up to the challenge. Lucy passey worked hard to make sure the Upminster forward didn't score, effectively marking her out of the game. Angie Chambers stopped Upminster running down the right of the pitch, intercepting the ball each time. The midfield did so well to keep possession of the ball working it between them and forcing their way into the oppositions D. The breakthrough came from a ball worked up the pitch from Neve into the D, passing to Katie A who passed to Katie E who calmly smashed the ball past the Upminster keeper. Upminster then turned up the tempo stacking the home D. They then equalised from a short corner to make it level at half time.
In the second half Upminster started attacking more and despite the best efforts of Lucy and Izzy M who were solid in defence, Upminster had another short. After a number of chances Upminster scored again taking the lead. S&B were determined to score again and kept forcing their way into the Upminster D with Lexie C moving from midfield into a forward position, creating so many chances for the home team. The breakthrough came from a ball from Angie at right back, up to Katie A who beat the Upminster defence passing the ball to Mya who scored a cracking goal.
Despite the home teams determination to score again by battering the Upminster goal for the last 5 minutes the score remained 2-2. A great game and lovely to see the youngsters developing so much each week. POM well deserved to Lea M and Lexie C.
