S&B lose 3-1 and rue missed chances

The Fantastic 4’s lost 1-3 away at Upminster in a very early game. Upminster took an early lead after 10 minutes getting in behind the S&B defence beating keeper Leah who was unable despite a touch to keep it out. S&B stepped up and pushed forward with a number of good runs up the right and left wings. Some excellent linking play by Lexi H and Demi pushing forward hassling the Upminster players. Upminster then surged forward and despite the great efforts of Lucy P and Katie A, Upminster got into the D and scored their second goal.
The away team quickly switched players around, never letting their heads go down and found POM Katie E and Millie T on the left and used the space getting the break up to Lesley T and Michelle H. Despite the attacking play by the forwards, the Upminster goalie saved each shot. S&B were determined to score but the decisions doesn't go their way for the rest of the first half despite the attacking runs by the S&B midfield. Upminster then looked threatening again and despite Lea stopping a shot that came across the line, the home team pounced and scored 0-3.
The second half saw a change with S&B winning more balls and despite having no subs and starting to look a little tired they kept going surging forward up both wings. More great runs by Lexi and Katie E saw the ball in the home D time and time again and Lesley and Michelle H looking increasingly dangerous. Each time Upminster surged forward, Izzy M and Lucy P cut out the balls sending them back up the pitch. The Upminster team were awarded some shorts, which were saved twice off the line by Katie A who pushed the ball forward. Lexi H pounced on a loose ball, drove it into the Upminster D, causing chaos amongst the home defence and calmly slotted the ball in the back of the net 1-3.
The away team wanted to get another goal back and continued to keep possession moving the ball up the pitch. Whilst S&B battled hard and won that second half, they lost 1-3. A great game by all and despite the tired legs everyone kept going right up until the end. POM was Katie E who played out of position at left half winning the ball each time and surging forward to create chances.
