Hard fought draw for S&B 4th XI

It was an early start for the 4’s game at KES but the frost had gone and it was a beautiful sunny day. It took the home team a little while to find their feet and Maldon started strong and attacked, with Lea the legend goalie making some great saves. S&B then switched things around leading them to play a more attacking game with great runs up both the right and left wings. Lexi H got possession of the ball and ran it from inside the Maldon half into their D and swiped the ball across the goal at such an angle the Maldon keeper couldn't get to it. Deadlock broken 1-0 to the home side. With the teams quite evenly matched it was end to end hockey with Lesley T hassling the Maldon defence chasing the ball down and unlucky not to score, then the Maldon team pressed shooting at the S&B goal with Lea keeping the ball out.
Maldon then got round the S&B defence and scored their first goal. 1-1. The second half started strongly with both teams pressing high and more strong runs up the S&B wings. Despite several attempts on goal by the home side the Maldon goalie kept them out. Maldon then pushed forward and had several shorts awarded, with Lea keeping the goals out again diving like superwoman to make the saves. Maldon then managed to get hold of a loose ball in the S&B 23, drove the ball in and smashed the ball in, leading 1-2.
S&B determined to get a point from the game fought hard and kept possession flooding the Maldon D with players. A short corner was awarded to S&B. Lesley T smashed the ball at the Maldon goalie who saved the first, but Amy G pounced on the rebound and hit it towards goal. The ball deflected off the Maldon defender into the goal. 2-2. With only 5 minutes left S&B played it safe, keeping possession and pushed up the pitch hoping to score before the full time whistle. Result 2-2. POM was Lea the legend goalie who was epic in goal.
