S&B 4th XI unlucky against Upminster

The fantastic 4’s travelled to Upminster on a beautiful spring day. The away team started well with some great linking play from Izzy M, Demi, Lexi and Emily, in midfield attacking the Upminster 23, but unfortunately they couldn't convert the shots into goals against an experienced home defence.
Both sides were pretty evenly matched with end to end play. The S&B defence keeping the ball out and switching the play up both sides of the pitch. At half time it was 0-0.
Upminster came out strong and Lea the legend goalie made some superb saves. S&B pounced on every ball and attacked the home D but again couldn't score. Youngster Demi switched to sweeper and marked her player, to ensure the Upminster CF couldn't get in behind the defence and then using her speed ran the ball up the pitch surprising the Upminster defence. Despite the attacking play the away team just couldn't score.
S&B then went down to 10 players, as Jen had pulled a muscle in her leg earlier and then Emily took a lifted ball to her hand. Upminster capitalized on having lots of subs which gave them the upper hand in that heat and managed to swarm the S&B D overwhelming the defence and scored. 1-0.
The black and pink army didn't give up and kept possession, attacking the U's 23. Emily came back on for the last 5 minutes up front and got herself in some great positions behind the Upminster defence but couldn't get round the Upminster goalie. Great game and some very pink faces after running around in that heat. Upminster won 1-0. POM was Izzy M who ran from one end to the other, getting round the Upminster players and never giving up.
